About Termites PDF Print E-mail

There are about 2,000 known species of termites throughout the world. In the U.S., Subterranean termites, including Eastern, Western, Desert and Formosans, which build underground nests, are a concern in every state except Alaska. Subterranean termites are extremely destructive because they tunnel their way to wooden structures (like your home), into which they burrow to obtain food. Termites all share a virtually insatiable appetite for wood and other cellulose-containing materials. Given enough time, they will feed on the wood until nothing is left but a shell. Because of the quiet and hidden nature of termites, they are often undetected until damage has already occurred. Termites cause over $5 Billion in damage to structures in the United States each year. That is more than Fire, Flood, Hurricane and all other natural disasters combined, yet your home owners insurance likely does not cover termites.

Termites are highly social insects that live in large colonies where populations can reach more than one million. A Colony Consists of several structurally different forms living together as castes with different functions in the colony. The castes of a termite colony are king, queen, workers, soldiers, and swarmers.

In the spring, winged reproductives leave the parent colony to create a new colony. The swarm will typically last less than an hour, so it is very likely you will never see it. The lack of a swarm does not mean you do not have termites, but the presence of a swam means that you do have termites. The winged swamers are sometimes confused with ants, so it is best to have Big Time come and identify them for you.

Description of Termite Service PDF Print E-mail

First, Big Time Pest Control will conduct a complete inspection of your home to identify any termite activity and conducive conditions. Once it is determined that a preventative or curative termite treatment is neccessary, we will schedule the following service:

A Big Time Pest Control service professional will apply a liquid dilution of termiticide along the foundation walls of your home to create a continuous treatment zone. The application method is called "trenching" or "trenching and rodding," and may sometimes require drilling holes through slabs or other hard surfaces adjacent to the foundation of your home for maximum protection. Big Time may also treat conducive or termite active areas from the interior of your home, depending on the extent of the termite infestation and damage. Depending on your situation, a minimally disruptive treatment along the exterior perimeter of your home may be all the protection your home will need.

Big Time Pest Control uses a variaty of Termite Treatment materials.  Termidor is our featured product and is more effective than any other termite control material available.  Ask your Big Time representative which treatment material is reccomended for your property.

"Termidor applied according to label directions has provided 100% control of infesting termites in three months or less after treatment.

Like many other termite control products, Termidor termiticide/insecticide is a liquid—but that’s where the similarities end. Among liquid termiticides, Termidor is the most effective. That’s because Termidor is undetectable so termites neither avoid its treatment zone nor try to find a way around it.

Some nonrepellent liquids claim to be “nearly,” “virtually,” or “almost” as effective, but the difference between “almost as good as Termidor” and Termidor itself can make all the difference in the world when it comes to protecting your home from termites.

Termidor is one of the most thoroughly reviewed termite control products in history. Termidor is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency and can only be applied by a pest control professional who has been trained in correct application methods. Termidor is incredibly effective even at low application rates and bonds to the soil in which it is applied, so homeowners need not worry about leaching of the product. Termidor is applied with water, is not a petroleum based material and will not cause harm to plants adjacent to the areas of application."
